Pendle Heritage Centre is a museum and visitor centre in Barrowford, east Lancashire.

Learn about the Pendle witches, explore the 18th Century walled garden and woodland walk.

There is a pay and display car park directly opposite.

Colne and Nelson train stations are a half hour walk away.

Summer 2023 at Pendle Heritage Centre

 

Forty years of Friends of Pendle Heritage (Saturday 2 September 2023)

Talk: A study of early timber framed buildings and tradition building practice

Join us as we celebrate 40 years of the Friends of Pendle Heritage.

A full day event will be held in our Cruck Barn looking at the uniqueness of the building.

Susan Wrathmell, Chair of Skipton Civic Society and a former Conservation Officer for the Yorkshire Dales National Park, will talk about the building, together with other early timber framed structures.

Paul Simons will lead practical demonstrations with a discussion on their construction. Paul was the architect for the replica of the Globe Theatre in London.

Alan Gardner, National Senior Building Conservation Manager for the NT and former SPAB Technical Director, will discuss the use of lime and stone in traditional building techniques.

A full programme and booking form will be issued later.

The cost of the day will be £25 plus lunch.

Jane Eyre – A Musical Preview (Sunday 3 September 3pm).

In the Cruck Barn at Pendle Heritage Centre.

Experience the haunting beauty of Jane Eyre at this preview of John Joubert’s opera ahead of its world staged premiere. Join us as we unveil a sneak peek into this extraordinary opera, featuring a selection of pieces that bring to life Jane Eyre’s emotional journey.

From the tender melodies that evoke Jane’s innermost desires to the sweeping arrangements that mirror the stormy landscapes of her life, each note resonates with raw emotion and unyielding spirit.

But that’s not all. Green Opera will go beyond the boundaries of traditional opera performances. On the night, you will be able to engage in conversation with the creative team behind this remarkable production, gaining unique insights into their artistic vision and the intersection of opera and environmental sustainability.

Material Memory Roadshow at Pendle Heritage Centre (Saturday 15 July)

Have you got a piece of fabric or a textile object that has been handed down through your family?

Something mended and repaired over the years or travelled with you as you’ve moved from place to place?

If so, we invite you to get involved with Material Memory, a crowd sourced exhibition as part of this year’s @britishtextilebiennial that celebrates these cherished items and the stories they tell in the crypt of Blackburn Cathedral.

If you’d like to get involved you can bring your item to a roadshow at Pendle Heritage Centre on Saturday 15 July 11am-4pm.

This popular Lancashire artist left behind a large body of work and a mountain of sketchbooks, each a piece of art in their own right.
