Heritage Trust for the North West is the leading and largest historic building preservation trust in the North West of England. It has been saving, conserving and restoring buildings since 1978.

Based predominantly across Lancashire but also into Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cumbria, the Trust owns over 30 historic buildings in the north-west of England.
These have been saved from destruction and put to various good uses within their communities for economic and social benefit. Heritage Trust for the North West (HTNW) has also conserved numerous buildings which have then been utilised by local communities.
Today our priority is to breathe new life into heritage properties which were once at risk and to share them with communities. We are proud to work with hundreds of active volunteers in the field of conservation and restoration.
HTNW also operates a number of significant independent properties such as Lytham Hall on the Fylde Coast.
New projects – Baguley Hall – November 2025
In November 2025 we were selected by Historic England to take on the ownership of Grade I-listed Baguley Hall in Wythenshawe, South Manchester.

Baguley Hall
The Trust will now seek to work with local communities to develop its proposals for the future use of the Hall, including plans for public access.
The medieval timber-framed hall, dating back to the late 13th century and regarded as one of the oldest and finest surviving examples in the North-West, has been vacant since 1965.
The Trust’s selection follows a comprehensive bidding process that began when Historic England put the property on the market in May 2024.
Success story: Prospect Tower at Bank Hall
Our most recent restoration project concluded in November 2022 at Bank Hall in Bretherton.
The Grade II* listed property has now come off Historic England’s At Risk Register and has returned it to a residential property with 12 apartments and an exhibition demonstrating the impact local residents can have on saving historic buildings.
Visitors can now visit the iconic Prospect Tower and exhibition telling the story of Bank Hall. Book your place HERE.
